FANTASY FOOTBALL: WEEK 4 PLAYS THAT PAY

Last week was a good week, and slowly but surely roster construction has become a bit more of a methodical process.  Teams are starting to establish themselves as defensively competent against the run or the pass … or incompetent depending on what side of the fence you are on.  Either way we are slowly but sure able to settle in with plays that make sense, and which player carry higher ceilings AND floors than other.  Identifying this is critical in the cash game, but important in the traditional format as well.  In traditional fantasy leagues you are playing your opponent head on, so you can see what you are looking at on the other side of the fence.  You don’t share a community of players, so you can take risks and start injured players or go for the homerun play.  You don’t quite have that luxury in the daily game, unless of course you are spending a boat load on GPP games.  Either way I want you to maximize value, so here are some players that should pay the bills.

QUARTERBACKS - Average Joe

Joe Flacco has been the height of consistency leading a balanced attack for pretty much the entirety of his career.   He will rarely put up video game numbers, and will seldom crap a game away with a lot of turnovers.  That’s why I love him this week at home to the Raiders with still no dependable running game.  As long as Flacco has a full bevy of WRs, TEs, and a healthy O-line and defense he’s a solid option.  If Aaron Rodgers is in on a bye, plug in Flacco, and thank me later.

I like the price on Flacco in FanDuel, but for $100 less I love the price on Kirk Cousins and the third worst secondary in the NFL.  Captain Kirk should be beaming up the likes of Jordan Reed and DeSean Jackson often and I like the fact that the Redskins running game leaves a lot to be desired as well.

If you are wanting to go high-end – Cam Newton is the guy this week.  Don’t fall for Andrew Luck making the start in England as the Jacksonville defense is stingy.  Newton goes up against a secondary that can’t hang with Kelvin Benjamin or Greg Olsen.

RUNNING BACKS – No Need To Worry With Murray

DeMarco Murray is the work-horse on his team, and has at least five receptions in every game and leads the league in that area as well.  He’s the perfect dump off for Marcus Mariota, and he has a decent matchup against the Texans who will be without J.J. Watt for the rest of the season. He’ll lay an egg eventually, but not this week.

Melvin Gordon is the chalkiest of chalk this week in the cash game.  He’s at home against the worst rushing in the league by far in the New Orleans Saints.  I’m not certain he’ll be the top producing RB this week, but the value is easily there so lock him in.

My super sneaky ninja pick of the week is Detroit RB, Dwayne Washington who only has 16 carries on the year.  That is as a back up however, and now he’s at least in an equal timeshare with all the goal line work and a favorable matchup.  Hit him up with a plug n play and gain the respect of your league.

WIDE RECEIVERS – What Can Brown Do For You

Antonio Brown was exceptional in a game where the Steelers didn’t even score a TD.  They will be looking for retribution this week after a filthy nasty performance against the Eagles.  Brown went for 8/124 last year, at Kansas City, and didn’t even have Big Ben for that one.  Le’Veon Bell ornot Brown is the man again.  Please don’t expect 18 targets again though,

There is just too much value to spend big at the WR position this week or any week for that matter.  DeAndre Hopkins, Odell Beckham, Allen Robinson, and Julio Jones have all failed to meet expectations, amongst many others, while Marvin Jones, Mike Evans, Doug Baldwin, Stephan Diggs, and Larry Fitzgerald are all in the top six in total fantasy points in PPR leagues.  There is a lot of low hanging fruit this week, with this bunch so don’t be afraid of a little research to see what play makes sense for you.  For the record I like both Diggs and Baldwin this week.

TIGHTENDS – Miller Time

Zach Miller finally came into form last week with a two TD performance.  He should be safe to deploy as long as Brian Hoyer is behind center, and his matchup this week is off the chain.  The Detroit Lions are one of the worst teams in the entire league at defending the TE position, so Miller should get 8-9 targets, including some in the red zone.  Miller is also dirt cheap on FanDuel at only $5000.

Delanie Walker should return to action, and if does, he shouldn’t be overlooked.  I’m rarely on a player fresh of an injury, but I can’t help but to feel a bit responsible for bringing this to your attention.  All the guy has down since last season is score TDs, and get targets.    Miller is still a better value this week, but in the traditional game Walker get’s the green light.  Keep an eye on whether or not Cutler plays as well, that’s huge.

DEFENSE – The Washington Football Guys

In an effort to keep it PC – Washington hosts Cleveland this week.  The Browns did remarkably well moving the ball against the Dolphins on the road, but eventually the defense in South Beach got to Cody Kessler.  The same story should follow the Brown team to the nations capital.  I also love the Minnesota Vikings this week as well.  Prime game with an extra day of rest at home against a turnover prone Giants team with no running game????  Sign me up!  I’m not afraid of Odell Beckham until he gives me a reason to be afraid.  In the meantime I’m rolling with the Purple People Eaters.
